Cinco de Mayo 2020 at Home
Cinco de Mayo memes reveal the different ways that different people 0bserve the holiday, including celebrations of Mexican heritage and people getting wasted on “Taco Tuesday.”
May 5, Cinco de Mayo is a holiday that commemorates Mexico’s victory over France in the Battle of Puebla in 1862. Not to be confused with Mexican Independence day, which falls on September 16, Cinco de Mayo is celebrated in mostly in the U.S. and in parts of Mexico as well. In the U.S., in addition to being celebrated by Mexican Americans, the holiday has been co-opted by beer companies and non-Mexican Americans, many of whom are white, as a drinking holiday.
As COVID-19 lockdown orders require millions of people to stay at home on May 5, 2020, memes note how a damper will be put on festivities.
